The Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart Medal are two distinct military decorations awarded by the United States Armed Forces to recognize exceptional acts of bravery and sacrifice.

Bronze Star Medal

The Bronze Star Medal is a decoration awarded for acts of heroism, meritorious achievement, or service in a combat zone. It was established during World War II and is awarded to members of the United States Armed Forces, as well as to foreign military personnel who serve with or alongside U.S. forces.

The Bronze Star Medal can be awarded for a range of achievements and acts, including:

  • Acts of heroism in a combat zone.
  • Meritorious achievement in a combat zone.
  • Acts of heroism not involving direct conflict with an enemy.
  • Meritorious service in a non-combat setting.

The Bronze Star Medal is often awarded to service members who have displayed exceptional bravery, skill, and dedication in challenging and dangerous situations.

Purple Heart Medal

The Purple Heart Medal is one of the oldest military awards still given to U.S. military personnel. It is awarded to those who have been wounded or killed in action against an enemy of the United States.

Susan Nichols

Susan Nichols is a woman of many talents. She is a business woman, glass blower and martial arts student and teacher.

Susan has been a glass blower since 1996. Susan’s glass blowing shop was lost in the Tubbs fire. They are currently rebuilding her shop, so stay tuned!

The Art of Glass Blowing

Glass blowing, an ancient and mesmerizing art form, transforms molten glass into exquisite works of art through a delicate dance of heat, breath, and skillful manipulation. With its origins dating back thousands of years, glass blowing continues to captivate artists and audiences alike, offering a unique blend of creativity, science, and craftsmanship.

At its core, glass blowing involves shaping molten glass, which is heated to extreme temperatures until it becomes pliable. This dance with fire demands not only technical precision but also an intimate understanding of the behavior of glass under different temperatures and pressures.

Glass blowing is a marriage of artistry and scientific understanding. The glass blower must master the interplay of temperature, gravity, and timing to achieve the desired shape and aesthetics. The colors, patterns, and textures within the glass are carefully planned and executed, resulting in pieces that range from delicate vessels to intricate sculptures.

Our Children

Son, Tristyn is currently serving in the Army as a Human Resources Specialist at the rank of Specialist/E4. He is stationed in Fort Lewis, Washington.

Our daughter Savanah is our angel. We had her in 2019, but she passed at birth. She will forever be in our hearts.

Pets

We have two Belgian Malinois; Cleopatra, 9 and Genesis, 7.

We also have Petey, 9 and Lily, 7.

Cleopatra and Genesis are a lot of energy but also a lot of fun. As much as they love to run about, they also enjoy cuddling on the couch.

Petey and Lily are our two rescues. Petey is a handsome boy who enjoys most other dogs he meets. Lily loves to be petted and given snacks. Those familiar with Pack Ship and More in Windsor can often see Lily in the store.

“We enjoy riding motorcycles when we have time on the weekends.

Susan has a passion for gardening. Shawn enjoys cooking.

Our Neighborhood

Our neighborhood is pretty quiet. We are set back from the main road by about 500 feet. Our closest neighbor is Ann. She is an amazing woman and a great neighbor. She is the widow of a World War II veteran. Ann has lived in the community for decades, watching the changes and growth. She has amazing stories to tell. She often reminds me how hard it is to find great
neighbors and she is glad to live in this area. I couldn’t agree more.
Doug is our neighbor to the east and is always willing to lend a hand or collaborate on mutual improvements that benefit the neighborhood.
I could not ask for a better area to live. We love that we have the country feel but are close enough to the Town Green to walk (less than a mile).

A Message for the Community

“I spent over 12 years between the Balkans, Iraq, Afghanistan and Djibouti Africa. The one thing that rang true in all of these geographic areas and communities is this:

When neighbors, families, communities and cities/towns work together and stick together, they flourish. This means looking at and participating in the environment, culture, collaboration, and social morals. Create a strong community and no outside influences will be able to break it down. These realities and truths are what has driven me to be a part of non-profit organizations, the Windsor Chamber of Commerce and others.” -Shawn Nichols
