One of the most important roles a parent has is keeping their children safe. This responsibility is one that takes place throughout childhood, but is also at its most important early on in life. Children are at their most vulnerable as babies, before they can even walk or talk, and as such it is important that parents are able to understand the best ways to keep their children safe during their earliest days. For Ben and Karli Arias of Windsor, learning about how to keep children safe has been a large part of their lives as parents, and they want to be able to pass that information on to other parents throughout the Bay Area.
Ben and Karli first met in 2011 while at a work conference in Charlotte, North Carolina. Starting off as colleagues and friends, Ben and Karli were able to discuss their jobs as Safe Kids coordinators at Stanford Children’s Hospital and Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, respectively. Keeping in contact, the two would eventually marry in 2017 at a small family ceremony at Jack London State Park. Together, Ben and Karli have been able to form many fond memories together, with one of their most treasured being their honeymoon to Mexico. Since then, the couple is able to make new memories every day, especially while working together in their business.
Both Ben and Karli have had extensive careers in the child safety field. Ben originally worked for the California Criminal Justice System, but eventually changed careers and joined Stanford Children’s Hospital, where he was in charge of the hospital’s car seat program, served a Safe Kids Coordinator, and oversaw the child safety/injury prevention programs. Over 100,000 children each year were impacted by his outreach programs on various safety topics.
Karli, meanwhile, worked for 20 years at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. Half of that time was in the staffing department, but the other half was very similar to Ben’s role as a child safety/injury prevention coordinator. Some of the programs she was involved with included their bike helmet program with the Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition, Safe Kids Sonoma County, the safe sleep program, and the low-income car seat program, to name a few.
However, just over 5 years ago, Ben and Karli were able to take their business together from a side job to a full-time gig. Their business is called Beep! Beep! Car Seat & Baby Proofing. With both Ben and Karli serving as child safety experts, Beep! Beep! Car Seat & Baby Proofing offers services to families throughout the Bay Area in multiple ways. In addition to helping parents properly install car seats for their children, Beep! Beep! Car Seat & Baby Proofing also allows parents to take Ben or Karli on a virtual walkthrough of a home in order to determine the best way to baby-proof the house. Ben and Karli also install baby proofing equipment as well. “My favorite part of my job is teaching and the connection you feel when someone ‘gets it’ and their child will now be safe in their home and on the road,” Karli says.
Ben and Karli’s experience in the world of child safety does not solely come from their work histories. Ben and Karli are also the proud parents of a blended family of four children: Will and Ben Tedeschi, and Mateo and Yara Arias. Will is the eldest, and is a hockey goalie for the Santa Rosa Flyers, where he has played since the age of 10. Second is Mateo, who has recently discovered a love of cooking to pair with his love of manga and video games. Third is Ben, who is a member of the Windsor Knights Football Team, where he has discovered a love for it to match his older brother’s love for hockey. Last, but certainly not least, is Yara, who loves drawing and baking, in particular loving to help whoever is in the kitchen.
The entire Arias family also loves cooking shows, with The Great British Bakeoff being a favorite. Each year, when the Bake Off airs, the Arias family chooses a dessert to make from the previous week’s show to bake, and then eat it while watching the current episode. “It’s a fun family tradition filled with delicious food, and the occasional fail. Will is currently cooking his way through the Bob’s Burgers cookbook, and cooks a different burger from the cartoon every Wednesday. This has turned out to be one of the best dinners each week – and mom gets a break from cooking!” Karli says.
Rounding out the family at home are the Arias family pets. They have quite the zoo, but the two most exotic are Will and Ben’s two ball pythons: Dennis and Olive. Olive in particular, Karli notes, is an escape artist, which has led to finding the snake in some interesting places over the years.
Within Windsor, the family lives within the Town along the Tree Streets. For the past five years, the family has been able to call this area their home, and they have absolutely fallen in love with everything the Town has to offer. In particular, the Arias family knows that Windsor is a fantastic place to raise a family, and stands out as an extraordinarily safe place to work and play.
In addition to their fantastic neighbors, the Arias family has also been able to support their community in return by working with the Town of Windsor Police to teach child passenger safety classes and hold community car seat events each year.
All in all, the Arias family treasures their ability to work within their community to provide safety lessons to parents in need. Whether car seats, baby-proofing, or other safety concerns, Ben and Karli love helping parents. For any parent in need of a great example on how to keep their children safe, look no further than the Arias family. To the community of Windsor, Karli says: “Every day, when I take my walk in the morning, I always walk out the door and the Mr. Rogers theme song comes to mind: ‘It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood, it’s a beautiful day for a neighbor…’ and I think, ‘How lucky am I to live in such a wonderful Town and neighborhood?’”
