Jewelry is one of the most popular ways for a person to express themselves. Rings, earrings, cufflinks, and more can provide a person with a distinct, impressive look. They can also hold great symbolic or sentimental importance, such as a wedding band, a brooch passed down through generations, or other important pieces that hold great value to their owner. But jewelry also requires care to maintain its shine. And just like jewelry, people also shine all the brighter when properly polished and cared for. For the Montoya family of Windsor, working as jewelers has not only been a way to earn a living, but also to grow stronger as a family and as people.
Rodney and Annie, who were engaged in Tahiti, have been working together in their store for many years now, and have valued every moment they have had together. In addition to their work with Montoya Jewelry Designs, Rodney and Annie have been able to learn about jewelry together, enjoy vacations, attend jewelry conventions, design their own jewelry, and, of course, be loving parents to their daughter. They cherish every memory together, and hope to continue living, loving, and working together for years to come.
Rodney earned his degree in Communications from the Metropolitan State College of Denver, and soon after began his training in the jewelry industry. Rodney has been professionally trained in gem grading, diamond grading, and Jewelry Design through the Gemological Institute of America. Annie, meanwhile, attended Sonoma State University to earn her Arts degree, and is also trained in color stone and pearl grading through the GIA.
Together, Rodney and Annie own Montoya Jewelry Designs, which is located on the Windsor Town Green. Montoya Jewelry Designs offers a wide variety of rings and other jewelry, in addition to repair and other forms of care. Working with a wide variety of designers, as well as their own custom designs, the Montoyas offer Windsor a fantastic, local option for jewelry needs.
Outside of work, the Montoyas are also active in their community and hobbies. Rodney has been the founding member of a nonprofit, working to help develop leadership with local youth. Annie, meanwhile, loves to travel, especially when the family can travel to see a gem or jewelry show on the road. One of her primary roles, however, has been caring for her and Rodney’s daughter, Lucca.
Though still young, Lucca has found a love for jewelry of her own, and works with her parents in the store. Lucca is fully bilingual, and has been very active in school and her community, including attending many Library and Town events. Prior to the pandemic, Lucca was also a member of Move Over Mozart for quite some time. Today, Lucca is still active as a member of Hauth’s Family Taekwondo, and is currently (at the time of this writing) working to achieve her red belt in Taekwondo. To top everything off, Lucca is also an artist, and loves to learn about history as well.
Together, the entire family has also been active doing volunteer work with Meals on Wheels, as well as raising money with the Boots and Bling fundraiser. “Getting to give back to the community during these hard times of COVID has been very fulfilling,” say the Montoyas.
Rounding out the family are their pets: Nala, the Boston Terrier, a cat, and five chickens.
Within Windsor, the Montoyas live on the west side of Town. Both Rodney and Annie have lived in the Town for over 20 years, and they adore the community atmosphere around them. The ability to walk to just about anywhere they need to go has been one of the biggest benefits the family has experienced in Windsor, and they love that everything they need is within just a few square miles of home. Everything from shopping to school is “right next door” for the family.
Outside of Windsor, the Montoya family has also taken many vacations over the years. While some of these were for learning more about jewelry, many of them have also been a relaxing time. Rodney in particular enjoys visiting Asia, while Annie enjoys just about every form of travel.
In the end, the Montoya family loves to be able to work and live in the Town they have called home for so many years. Through their work at their store, their volunteering, and their participation in the community, the family will continue to support Windsor with everything they have. To the community they call home, the Montoyas say: “We offer a sincere thank you for allowing us to continue to earn the community’s business! Above all, remember: Family over everything!”
